Each yeah, March Madness comes and college basketball fans are in a month of heaven. In this article, we are going to take a look at some tips and strategy behind making sure that you make some money when betting on the NCAA Tournament.
We’d love to say that it’s as easy as going off of your bracket and betting on one team over the other, but unfortunately there is still quite a bit of research that has to be done on each game, and as you know, there are a TON of games to bet on throughout the opening few days of the tournament itself.
Let’s get into some strategy behind betting the tournament, and that not only includes day two of the first round, but also betting the round of 32, sweet 16, and so on as well!
1. Choosing the Right Sportsbook to Bet At
2. Bonuses and Promotions
3. Preparing Bet Sizing and Money Management
I can sit here and talk about money management and bet sizing in sports betting for days because it is incredibly important no matter what sport that you are betting on. It’s VERY important when it comes to March Madness though, mainly because there are so many games on the board consistently, and it can definitely be a bit overwhelming at times. You have to be prepared with a specific bet sizing for each game, or at least a way to rank your picks and put specific amounts on each level of your rankings. With the fact that there are double digit numbers of games on each of the first two days of the tournament, and action throughout the entire weekend, it can be tough to stay on track with your plan. Make sure to stick with the plan and grind out results to bring home a profit at the end of the weekend!
4. Game Planning
5. Don’t Let Thursday Affect Friday
What this means, is that just because there weren’t many upsets on Thursday, don’t assume that there are massive numbers coming on Friday, or that there won’t be any once again. These are completely different teams, playing with completely different mindsets, in completely different places. Do your research on each game like normal, and don’t let Thursday of the NCAA Tournament factor in to what is about to happen on Friday!
6. Don’t Always Think That a Team Won’t Straighten Up
A common assumption by people is that just because a team started a bit slow in round one, is that they are going to do the exact same in round two and bow out early. While this does happen from time to time, good teams know how to rebound from having off days or not being fully prepared. Just because a top three seed struggled a bit to put up an impressive win, you have to remember that the team that they were up against isn’t a bunch of slouches. These teams are strong, and definitely have solid players as well. No game in the NCAA Tournament is ever a walk, so don’t frown upon a team just because they didn’t blow someone out.
7. Using First Round Info for Second Round Betting
With this next tip we are going to take a look at how using the first two days of games (the first round), can be a great way to gather as much information as possible to help you make some profitable bets in round two.
Obviously, one key thing to watch is who wins the games and does it convincingly, but there is more than just that. In terms of NCAA Tournament betting, there is quite a bit of strategy behind watching teams that have the potential to make that deep run, and especially teams who have the chance to be this year’s cinderella story!
How They Win Round One
Obviously there are teams who have to grind out tough wins, and other teams who simply have to walk through the first round in some situations. You’ll find that outside of the 1 vs. 16 and 2 vs. 15 games, there aren’t a lot of walks, but it still does happen. These games are incredibly important to watch for, but most importantly it’s crucial to watch how the team who wins the walk starts off that game.
If they played their game and shot about how they did throughout the year, then basically it means that their game plan for the NCAA Tournament is simply working. But, if they came out hitting an incredible percentage of their shots, it’s tough to tell if that team’s hot streak will continue in the next game.
Do Tired Legs Exist?
Not after one round they don’t, and especially not with the type of adrenaline that these kids are playing with during the NCAA Tournament. So looking at tired legs is not something that you should expect, BUT if a specific player on the team looks gassed during the second half of a tough game, then that is definitely a bad sign for the team moving forward. You never want to see one of your top players sucking wind before the game is close to ever, especially in a game that is incredibly close.
It’s no guarantee that this player will go through a similar situation in the next round, but it’s worth monitoring it throughout some different games. Also, watch for the teams who seem to not be showing any signs of fatigue, because these teams can be good betting options to come out strong in the second round.
Overall, the best tip that I can give is to watch the first round, or at least catch the highlights!
